What matters: ANSI/BHMA certification on the exact model, physical key or emergency power options, offline keypad access, auto-lock behavior, guest codes, firmware support, and whether remote access requires a hub or subscription.

Retrofit first: Measure door thickness, 2-3/8-inch or 2-3/4-inch backset, bore and latch alignment. Test the deadbolt with the door open, then closed. Don't use a double-cylinder deadbolt where it would impede required emergency egress.

Roof & Lawn pick: For a basic retrofit, prioritize a well-supported keypad deadbolt with an accessible manual backup; buy Wi-Fi or Matter features only when you will actually use them.
